Getting Ranked Well in the Search Engines

The best thing to do is to add lots of really good text to the site - articles, etc - that include the keyword phrases that you want to rank well for.

The search engines will look at the content of each page and determine how it should be ranked and for what keyword phrases. On each page you have a title tag, a meta description tag, a meta keywords tag, an alt tag for each image, title tags for each link, and of course the headings, links, and text on the page. All this info is what the search engines look at to rank each page. If you feel that potential clients would type in "cabinet builder CT" to find services like yours, you would want to use those words in the places I mentioned above (title tag, etc).

You can also submit your site to search engines and directories if you like. Search engines like to find you through links from other sites, but directories may need you to submit to them, like http://www.dmoz.org. You can do a search on yahoo or google to find directories in your industry that you might want to submit to.

Getting other sites to link to you will help your ranking quite a bit. Approach sites with the same target market as yours but with non-competing services. Do some searching on keywords that you think people would find your types of services and see what other good sites come up. Popular sites are best, but not so big that you can't contact the people in charge easily.
